Beautiful Girls Luncheon is always a
good way to see what 'Myer' had to showcase for the coming season,
but really I use the day for time with my mum and a good chat with
friends that I only catch up with a few times a year.
It is really difficult in the financial
climate for retailers and designers. My husband is a customs broker
and knows exactly what is being imported and how much. Unfortunately
let me say that because of the high Australian dollar it is harder
for us to be exporting and as for importing, well there are really
not enough sales right not.
If you go to shopping centres and gauge
what is being sold, you will see that home wears will always be
selling and somehow are always on special in some shape or form,
although the rag trade is suffering.
Allot comes down to the consumer to
blame as consumers are choosing to shop online attracting no sales
tax or purchasing 2nd grade goods without them knowing and
cutting out the middle man, sales people and overheads of the shop,
rent, lighting electricity etc.
Department stores are looking for
things to sell themselves.
Myer showcase was good, but still for
the very young, although the audience is an older demographic and
really pushing the idea of boots with socks or opaques. Love the
idea of hosiery as I constantly get told I am old fashion, but in
Melbourne Winter it is a no brainer and well for the boots, unless
you have the model pins, they are going to bulk you down.
It was a very Melbourne look with
Black, Grey and if we had colour, throw in some more black, but there
were prints. The prints came out all together in different garments
and somehow I feel they lost a bit of personality all coming out
together. It showcases the different looks, but certainly shows that
they were purchasing heaps of roles of fabric for a signature look.
The only thing is print is dating very quickly. As soon as it is in,
it goes out just as fast. In saying that, Matichevski and Yeojin
Bae showed different shapes and design which really stood them apart
and Leona Edminston we can rely on to give us different patterns,
textures and moves beautifully as she is a design master. My stand
out items for winter will be OPAQUE hosiery, a great winter coat, and
as for Millinery, there is allot of talk on thermoplastic, but ANISS
has stolen the show. If I was purchasing, an ANISS hat would be on
the top of my list for Autumn/Winter headwear. It is distinctive and
whatever you wear everything will be brought from the heaviness of
Winter to your face. ANISS head wear is outstanding and the key
'Racing Fashion' must have for Autumn/Winter.
